JCVT Chosen for Convenant Grant
Jewish Communities of Vermont is thrilled to announce that we were chosen from a nationwide pool to receive a very competitive Signature Grant from the Covenant Foundation entitled Shmita Statewide! This is a three year grant for $150,000. Convenant Foundation recognizes recipients, such as JCVT, for proposing some of “the newest and most exciting ideas in Jewish education.”
Shmita Statewide’s mission is to develop a sustainable, predicable, and exciting statewide program of activities that unites the Jewish community through collaborative Jewish education programs focused on a variety of issues, including shmita and the seven-year cycle of renewal and action.
Some of the activities envisioned in the grant include:
Programs at congregations to bring community together around an issue of relevance to your area
Speaker series hosted at different locales
Music series hosted at different locales
Statewide, on-line biweekly “Jewish Life” class with each session facilitated by different leaders from across the state
Shabbat Across Vermont
Regional one-day “Summit-like” gatherings for people of all ages and outlooks to meet, share ideas and celebrate being Jewish in Vermont
Ski-Ride Purim
The Shmita grant will:
Give life and strength to JCVT’s mission, vision and values aimed at facilitating a vibrant, more inclusive, connected, creative and innovative Jewish community.
Build multiple entry points for diverse Jewish Vermonters to join a more united statewide Jewish community.
Provide funding to congregations and organizations to pursue a statewide theme around the concept of Shmita, and to learn from each other about their different endeavors.
Connect unaffiliated Jews to the Jewish community through concerts, artists, speakers, education and recreation.
Over time, we hope this mix of predictable, annual programming will help Jews throughout Vermont feel part of a vibrant statewide community.
