Shmita Kick-off

On Sunday we hosted the kick-off event to begin planning for the Shmita year starting in September. Thanks to the help of the superb planning committee (Rabbi Jan Salzman, Sephirah Stacey Oshkello and Rabbi Tobie Weisman), our incredibly thoughtful and thought provoking panelists (Grace Oedel, Devorah Brous, and Rabbi Michael Cohen), and our wonderful participants, we began to envision this huge range of possibilities of how we can embrace the spirit of Shmita—rest, reflection, renewal—in our own lives and in our communities. As the panelists pointed out, Shmita can be a radical concept of rethinking so much about ourselves, our relations and the systems that impact all our lives.

We are hoping we have a statewide commitment of Jewish Vermonters to engaging with Shmita. We are just beginning the conversation to learn together. We invite you to join us for the free workshop series in May to further our exploration of possibilities. To register or for more information, click here.

If you missed the kick-off event, you can watch the recording here. Please join us for all or some of the workshops in May to continue our learning and thinking together!
