Mother earth & maple syrup

Sugar and Schmooze

As Jewish residents of Vermont, we can take our inspiration at this time of the year by both the seasonal shifts we observe as winter transitions into spring, as well as from the Jewish rhythm.  Now, maple sugar season sweetens our smiles and so does Purim.  With satire, costume and merry drink as part of the tradition, we practice choosing the attitude of Joy despite our consequences.   Just as March in Vermont brings us temperature leaps, unpredictable roads and storms; so the story of Purim and its triumphant celebrations reminds us to embrace the unpredictability of life with open arms and a smile.

Shortly after with the next moon, we begin to prepare ourselves for the festival of freedom and Spring: Passover.  Passover is an extension of our process of growth.. just like the maple buds extend from the sap's flow.   Without joy, without radical acceptance of the true nature of the universe and its unpredictability, we can never be free.

Come join Living Tree Alliance and the extended community in a celebration of spring. We will wake up Mother Earth with the maple syrup drum brigade, birdsong or  dancing sun shine. Hibernation season is over, so let's celebrate and begin our communal journey towards freedom.  Maple Hamentashen and other goodies will be provided!
